The Grahamastown National Arts Festival showcases the diverse artistic potential that is to be found in South Africa. Musicians, painters, actors, photographers and artists of all types flock to this sleepy little student town once a year to entertain, showcase and push the boundaries of human artistic capabilities while a plethora of people seeking two weeks of entertainment follow in their wake. All I had on me at the time (due to some rushed last-minute planning) was a Hasselblad 35-mm that I robbed my father of.

Refugee Camps, Johannesburg, South Africa

These shots were taken at the Primrose and Cleaveland Refugee Centres in Johannesburg. I joined a photographer from the Star Photography department for the day and took these during the morning of a relatively quiet day during the Xenophobic violence that erupted around South Africa in early 2008. I used a basic entry-level digital camera; a Fujifilm Finepix S5600.
